Abstract


Abstrak

Tebu merupakan penghasil gula yang utama serta merupakan komoditas strategis di Indonesia.Benih bermutu merupakan faktor penting untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan rendemen Salah satu upaya penting yang menentukan keberhasilan budidaya tebu adalah ketersediaan benih berkualitas. Tinjauan ini dimaksudkan untuk mengkaji aspek perbenihan tebu dan strategi untuk memperoleh benih dalam jumlah banyak, seragam, sehat, waktu sesuai, distribusi dan aspek ekonominya. Perbanyakan benih tebu umumnya dilakukan dengan pendekatan konvensional. Beberapa kendala yang dihadapi dalam upaya perbanyakan benih tebu konvensional adalah faktor perbanyakan benih hanya 5-8. (?) Metode alternatif kultur in vitro mampu menghasilkan benih dalam jumlah banyak, seragam, sehat, dan waktu sesuai jadwal.Namun pengembangan kultur in vitro memerlukan fasilitas laboratorium, sumber daya manusia dan anggaran memadai.  Perbanyakan benih selanjutnya dilakukan berjenjang dengan bagal atau benih tumbuh satu mata.Metodebenih tumbuh satu mata(bud chips ataupun single bud sett) meskipun lebih mahal, mampu memperbanyak benih lebih cepat, sehat, dan seragam karena dapat diberikan perlakuan benih dengan pestisida dan zat pengatur tumbuh, memiliki multiplikasi lebih banyak karena banyaknya anakan, serta dapat melakukan seleksi untuk memilih benih yang tumbuh seragam dan sehat yang akan ditanam. Pengembangan sistem perbenihan tebu harus didukung faktor sosial ekonomi terutama aspek kelayakan finansial, kelembagaan dan sistem permodalan serta dukungan program dan kebijakan pemerintah.

Sugarcane is dominant to provide sweetener crop and its a strategic commodity in Indonesia.Qualified seeds are important factor increasing yield and sugar content of sugarcane.This review is purposed to discuss sugarcane seeds aspects and solution get seeds in more, hogenous, healthy, and proper shedule. Generally, source of KBPU multiplication seeds is conducted by breeder. Alternative method of tissue culture can produce much, homogenous, healty, and proper timetable. However, tissue culture development requires enough laboratory facillities, human resources, and budget.Following seeds mult. Fllowing multiplication are conducted hierracy through billets and bud chip.Eventhough bud chips or single bud sett are expencive, but it can produce seeds more quicly, helsty, and hommogenous due to able to threath of pesticide and plant growth regulator, higher multiplication due to many tillering, and selection of healthy and homogenous seeds.Sugarcane seeds system development has to be supported by socio-economic factors, particularly financial, institutional, and capital system.
