Efektivitas Formulasi Mikroba Probiotik terhadap Mutu Fisiologis Benih dan Pertumbuhan Jagung Hibrida

Improved soil quality and crop productivity due to the appliacation of probiotic microbes had been reported for many commodities, including maize. Study was
conducted to obtain the best microbial probiotic (MP) formulation that is able to maintain seed quality and support the seedling growth of hybrid maize. The
research was conducted at the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory, Bogor Agricultural University and was continued at the experimental garden of
Cikarawang, Dramaga, Bogor, from March to December 2016. Two formulations of MP, namely paste and liquid, combined with six probiotic microbes were tested
for viability and seedling vigor, using CRD, in three replications. The treatment effect on plant growth was studied in the field using a split split plot
design in three replications. The microbe treatments were compared with NP fertilizer namely: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of reguler dose. The six
combinations of probiotic microbes used included: I1 (P24-AzL7), I2 (P24-AzL9), I3 (B28-AcCKB4), I4 (P24-AcCKB9), I5 (P24-AcCKB20), and I6 (P24-AcCKW5).
Results showed that the probiotic microbial formulation affected seed viability, with the seed viability (DB) and maximum growth potential (PTM) of more than
92.7% and 94%, respectively. The paste probiotic microbial formulation was more effective on seed vigor than liquid formulation, where vigor index (IV) and
speed of germination (KCT) was more than 87.3% and 23.6%/etmal, respectively. Probiotic microbial formulation positively affected the development of root and
vegetative growth of Bima-3 hybrid maize variety. The suitability of microbial probiotic formulation was influenced by microbe type and plant nutrient
availability in the soil.
