Pengaruh Pemangkasan Pucuk terhadap Hasil dan Kualitas Benih Lima Kultivar Mentimun

Abstract


ABSTRAK. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemangkasan pucuk terhadap hasil dan kualitas benih 5 kultivar mentimun. Penelitian dilakukan di Balai Penelitian Tanaman Sayuran Lembang pada ketinggian 1.250 m dpl dengan tipe tanah Andosol, mulai bulan Februari sampai Mei 2005. Metode penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak terpisah dengan 3 ulangan. Petak utama terdiri dari kultivar Pluto, Mars, Saturnus, Venus, dan LV 2276. Anak petak terdiri dari tanpa pemangkasan pucuk pada batang utama, pemangkasan pucuk pada ruas ke-15 dan ruas ke-30. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengaruh pemangkasan pucuk baik terhadap hasil maupun kualitas benih tidak bergantung pada kultivar. Pemangkasan pucuk pada ruas ke-15 memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap jumlah benih per buah, bobot kering benih per buah, dan bobot kering benih per tanaman, dibandingkan dengan pucuk yang tidak dipangkas. Pemangkasan pucuk tidak memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap kualitas benih (daya kecambah, daya muncul, kecepatan berkecambah, dan daya hantar listrik).

ABSTRACT. 2008 Sutapradja, H. 2008. The Effect ofof Shoot Pruning on the Yield and Seed Qualility of Five Cucumber Cultivars. The objective of the experiment was to determine the effect of apical shoot pruning on the yield and seed quality of cucumber. The experiment was conducted at experimental garden of Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute, at 1,250 m asl with Andosol soil type, from February to May 2005. The experiment was carried out in split-plot design with 3 replications. The main plot was cucumber cultivars, consisted of Pluto, Mars, Saturnus, Venus, and LV 2276. While the subplot was apical shoot pruning, i.e. without shoot pruning, shoot pruning on the 15th and on the 30th stem internode. Results of the experiment showed that there was no interaction between cultivars and apical shoot pruning. Pruning on the 15th stem internode significantly gave the highest number of seed per fruit, as well as for dry seeds weight per fruit and per plant. However, apical shoot pruning have no effect on seed quality as indicated by seed germination, seedling emergence, germination rate, and electric conductivity
