Abstract


Observation on levels of clove flower maturity

The research was conducted at The Sub Research Institute for Spice and Medicinal Crops, Solok, in 1984 on clove flowers of the Zanzibar type obtained from Laing Research Garden, Solok. The levels of maturity compared were Maviyapanya, Karafuu and Mpeta stadium. The results showed that Karafuu and Mpeta have higher wet weights than Maviyapanya, but Karafuu has the greatest dry weight. Mpeta had the greatest weight loss on drying compared with Karafuu and Maviyapanya. Karafuu had the best dry colour compared with Maviyapanya and Mpeta.
