General Requirements

Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi Perkebunan (J.SainsTekBun) (before: Buletin Tanaman Tembakau, Serat, dan Minyak Industri) is a peer-reviewed and open access journal that publishes research articles, reviews, case studies and a brief communication of estate crops that has not been previously  published on any other publications. 

The journal maintains strict standards of content, presentation, and reviewing. The official language of the journal is both in Indonesian and English. The manuscript should be prepared in good Bahasa Indonesia (standardized on Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia) or in good English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of them). All manuscripts are firstly screened on their topic suitability and language quality. The journal is free open access and free of charge.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

The manuscript should be submitted through Online Submission at address:

The submitted manuscript should be accompanied by a signed Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) form (.pdf file). The form is available here. 

 

Reviewing of Manuscript

All papers submitted to J.Sains-TekBun are peer-reviewed. The decision for publication, amendment, or rejection is based on reviewer recommendations. If reviewers consider a manuscript unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis for the decision will be sent to the authors shortly. The decision of the J.Sains-TekBun Editor is final.

 

Revision of Manuscripts

Revised manuscripts should be returned to the editor by Online Submission Interface (http://ejurnal.litbang.pertanian.go.id/index.php/bultas).

 

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

The written manuscript is the original manuscript of research or a review of a research and development topic and has never been published or is submitted to other media. Manuscripts are written in Indonesian or English, prepared using

Times New Roman letters, 12 fonts, typed in 1.5 spaces, 2,5-cm margins on the top, bottom and left-hand side of the paper, and not more than 20 pages (including abstracts, tables, figures, and references). Author(s) should provide the page number and numbered line for each page.

Manuscript Structure

Research Article (Original Paper):

Manuscript covers Tittle, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment, and References. Appendices may be included if necessary.

The research articles contain a broad research scheme and an in-depth discussion of the findings. The structure of the article consists of Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, and References. Each section is given the capital letter. Further subsections are given subheading in the lower case with capital for each word. Templates for preparing research papers can be downloaded here.

Review Article

The review article contains a study of research results that are analyzed and synthesized in order to obtain correct, valid and relevant information for the development of science and technology related to estate crops. The structure of the review article consists of Introduction, the content of the review (consisting of several chapters and sub-chapters), Closing Remarks, Acknowledgement, and  References. Appendices may be included if necessary. Each section is given the capital letter. Further subsections are given subheading in the lower case with capital for each word.  The template for the preparation of the review manuscript can be downloaded

The title should be concise, factual, informative, and should contain not more than 15 words in Indonesia and English. The author must also write a running title (maximum 60 letters) which is a small title of the script.

Author(s)’ name is written in full and without a title. If the author's name is more than one person, the order of writing the name must follow the Ethics of Scientific Publication Code.

Author(s) address is written under the author's name line. This information consists of the name and address of the institution, as well as the e-mail of the correspondence author.

Abstracts are written in Indonesian and English, no more than 250 words, no abbreviations or references. Abstract is the essence of all writing.  The research article should describe briefly and concisely the problem, the objective, the methods, significant data, principal findings, and conclusions. The review article includes an introduction, objectives, content analysis and synthesis of the research results reviewed, and conclusions.  Only standard terms, scientific nomenclature and accepted abbreviations should be used.

Keywords consists of 4–6 words that represent the scope of the text and can be used for indexing purposes.

Introduction should describe information about the literature review behind the importance of research or review, the significance of science and technology progress and its application, as well as clearly state the objectives and the importance of the research. The statement in the introduction is supported by relevant and current references (the last 10 years).

Materials and Methods 

Methods should be written in detail to provide a description for already published methods supporting by references. New methods should be described in detail to allow other workers to repeat or apply the procedures.  The place and time of the work are clearly stated. The data analysis used is described.

Results and Discussion could be presented either in one section (preferably) or separated section. Describe the results obtained by the method first without arguing or speculating. Figures and tables should be used in the results section wherever possible. The same data cannot be presented in tables and figures at once, one must be selected. The format of tables and graphs is in open form (without borders). Includes the measurement scale on the image in the form of a photo. 

The discussion is an interpretation of the results and explains the importance and relevance of the research. The discussion should also compare the data obtained from the results of previous studies by describing the similarities, differences, and uniqueness of the results obtained. Discussions should be supported by relevant and up-to-date references (the last 10 years). At the end of the discussion, the implications for related fields are presented.

Conclusions should be drawn with regard to the title, objectives, discussion of the findings and supported by the data. Suggestion could be given if necessary

Acknowledgments should be provided regarding the financial support, material and instrument accessibility, technical assistance, writing assistance, and personal communications and advices.

References could be in the form of scientific publications in journals, books, chapters in books, theses, and web-sites. The number of references referred to for research manuscripts is at least 12 research articles, while for review texts at least 25 research articles. Cited references must be relevant to topic of the article, and published in the last 10 years. Unpublished references should be avoided. 

Reference is compiled using Reference Management Tool, Mendeley, using Elsivier Harvard style (with titles). The name of the first author and the next author is preceded by the family name followed by the abbreviation of the first name and middle name without being separated by a comma or period. References should be listed in the alphabetical order. Each list reference should be cited in the text, and each citation should be listed in the references section.

Citation in the text is written as the author's family name (last name) followed by the year, for example: (Smith 2016; Smith & Jones 2017; Smith et al. 2012); or only the years written in parentheses, for example the research results of Smith et al. (2016). If there are three or more cited authors, then the citation is only the first author's name followed by et al. Remember that et al. is NEVER used in the list of references, although it is acceptable as a reference in the text.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document file format.

    The text is one and half spaced; times new roman, uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
